Profile of the notable chemist, physicist and meteorologist (1766 - 1844). He became Fellow of the Royal Society in 1822 and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science (DCL) by the University of Oxford in 1838. He is best known for his pioneering work in the development of modern atom theory and his research into colour-blindness, sometimes referred to as Daltonism. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1826.
