Georgian Nutmeg Grater

The domed top with flange is engraved with bright cut detail of a nutmeg flower. The top lifts off to accommodate the nutmeg and the base, when removed, reveals the nutmeg grater. The piece is not hallmarked but is undoubtedly silver and would date from circa 1750-1800. Gentlemen carried these in their pocket as they might never know when a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg might be required to spice up either a glass of punch or some other culinary delight.
