Sycamore Bowl

Pole-lathe turned fruit or serving bowl of good colour and patination. Incised pole lathe turning marks to base. Bowls such as these were turned using freshly sawn timber, rather than seasoned and hardened wood, because of the additional work required to use a pole lathe. Sycamore was the chosen wood for such bowls as is said not to taint the taste of food and to have antibacterial qualities.
