The top parquetry inlaid with various exotic woods in the perspective cube pattern frequently used by two of the leading exponents of Tunbridge ware, Thomas Barton and Edmund Nye of no. 86, Mt Ephraim and The Parade, Tunbridge Wells, who were in partnership together for a period of 58 years. The lid opens to a fine set of turned ivory and red stained ivory pieces.
