Late 16th century German Heraldic knop silver spoon

The spoon with round bowl and a flat stem engraved with chevrons and cushion pattern to the upper surface and the initials E.M. to the lower. Twisted stem section above with heraldic knop of a lion sejant affront holding a shield. Engraved initials P.M. to the centre of the shield. Unidentified town/maker’s mark to the spoon bowl plus a section of ‘trembleersteek’ (Dutch) or ‘tremolierstich’ (German) - the zigsag assay mark used for testing the purity of the silver content. See similar spoon in the Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Köln (Cologne), dated end of 16th century and attributed to a Wesel silversmith. Wesel is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
