Originally published in 1852, this edition was one of over 66,000 copies published to that date.Considered a bestseller in its time, it was eventually published a total of 43 times until 1878. Samuel Budget (1794 - 1851) was an English merchant who, from humble beginnings, built up a large wholesale grocery business called H. H. & S. Budgett, based in Kingswood, Bristol, and covering most of the south of England and South Wales. His fair and astute business acumen and concern for his employees’ wellbeing made him not only exceedingly popular but highly successful and renowned. William Arthur (1819 - 1901) was a Wesleyan Methodist minister and author who wrote this biography shortly after Budgett’s death.

12mo - 5” x 7 3⁄8” 392pp. Half bound in tan calf with embossed tan paper board covers with marbled endpapers and page edges. Five raised bands and gilt decoration and title to spine. Frontispiece portrait of the subject with a facsimile of his signature and greeting. Ink inscription to front free endpaper Henry Turner, March 1867. Silk ribbon intact.

Condition: Very good with rubbing to spine head and rubbing and chipping to corners. Light sunning to top edge of both boards. Spine tight and all pages clean bar very minor spotting on endpapers. Strong boards and clean, good looking copy.
