Antique sycamore dairy bowl and spoon. Pole-lathe turned bowl with incised turning marks to base. Spoon made from a single piece of sycamore.
Bowls such as this were turned using freshly sawn sycamore, rather than seasoned and hardened wood, chosen as it was said not to taint the food and to have antibacterial qualities.
English or Welsh, circa 1800 - 1830
