19th century antique fully rigged French model of a naval flagpole, shore based, flying from the carved gaff arm is a national ensign of the French tricolour. The moulded plinth base is of teak inlaid with boxwood and has a set of posts to its perimeter. The flagstaff is supported by gilt wire rigging with fine brass mounts and has carved pulleys and blocks. The tricolour was introduced post the French Revolution and this model may perhaps be from the hand of a prisoner of war.
