An early 17th century unsigned engraving of the sculpture ‘Eros of Thespiae’ by Lyssipos, personal sculptor to Alexander the Great. One of the original engravings of marble sculptures for the antiquities catalogue of the Marchese Vincenzo Giustiniani in Rome, the ‘Galleria Giustiniana’. Bears the crest of the Marchese, a crowned eagle and a castle. Numbered 27 in the first volume of the Galleria Giustiniana, the first known catalogue of a collection of antiquities drawn and engraved by Europe’s best artists of the early 17th century. The statue is now part of the collection at Torlonia Museum, Rome. Dating from circa 1635.
