Georgian mahogany folding bookrest by Gates of Brighton

Georgian mahogany folding bookrest made by Gates of Church Street & Crown Street, Brighton. An ingenious one piece folding bookrest, the design as illustrated by Ince & Mayhew,  published in 1762. This example bears a maker’s label,  Gates of Church Street, Brighton and hand written mention on label of Crown Street.  This is as illustrated in Pinto p.251 plate B282 and dates to circa 1800.
