Continental antique boxwood hafted knife, the well-patinated handle profusely carved with a bearded man with raised collar to the top. A pierced cage below with loose ball within and to the sides a sunburst over an elongated ‘X’ and the initials N.P. over a cross, a rooster and a tapered ladder, no doubt all symbolic. The steel blade with a cutler’s monogram 1B conjoined.
Late 17th century, early 18th century, probably German or Dutch
