Antique monochrome engraving - Prospect of Piazza della Sacrosanta Basilica ‘Veduta E Prospetto Della Piazza Della Sacrosanta Basilica Lateranense Madre E Capo Di Tutti Le Chiese Delmondo Christiano' inscribed anno 1694. Drawn and engraved by Alessandro Specchi (Italian 1668-1729), Papal Architect, and printed by Domenico de' Rossi.

Originally founded in 324, the Lateran Basilica is the oldest and highest ranking of the four major papal basilicas, with the unique title of archbasilica. It is the oldest public church in the city of Rome and the oldest basilica of the Western world. Two further copies of this print are held in the British Museum.

The rosewood ogee moulded frame with gilt slip is English, circa 1840 - 1870.
